Christ Caring for People through People
"love one another; as I have loved you…” - John 13:34
Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Those who are hurting receive love and support through one-to-one caring relationships with trained volunteer Stephen Ministers. The ministry is multi-denominational and named after Stephen, one of the first deacons of the early Christian church who was commissioned by the apostles to care for the needs of people in the Christian community.
Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, and share God’s love can help you get through confusion, stress or loneliness.
The word diaconate (pronounced dee-ACK-uh-nut) comes from the word deacon or deaconess, a Bible term that means server or caregiver. Those who have the gift and desire for rendering such service in our congregation will visit those who are shut in, hospitalized, or in need of simple Christian attention, etc. This is in contrast to our Stephen Ministry, which requires extensive training and gives care in more acute situations over a limited period of time.
We are in the process of setting up the diaconate ministry here at SOTH and need volunteers. If you are interested please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
